FAQ

How did you come up with the name Gransley?

Wayne and Phyllis have  2 grandchildren, Grant and Ansley.  We put their names together to come up with Gransley.

How much does it cost to purchase a half or whole beef?

We base our prices on current market prices of feed and cattle.   Your calf will be delivered to  I O Ranch Processing, LLC in Evant, Tx.  The price per pound to purchase the animal will be based on the hanging weight of the calf.  You will pay us for the calf and pay I O Ranch Processing for the processing.  Please Call Wayne at (325) 201 - 5464 for current prices and availability.

How much meat will I get?

We have averaged 40% of the calf's live weight.  That means a 1200 pound calf could yield an estimated 480 pounds of beef.  On average our calves weigh 1300 to 1450 pounds.

Can I purchase individual steaks from you?

We do not sell individual cuts of meat at this time.  The smallest quantity available is 1/2 beef.

How will my meat be cut and packaged?

When you first contact us to purchase your calf, Wayne will discuss the process with you and explain the different options.  After your animal is delivered to Evant you will contact I O Ranch Processing, LLC to finalize your order.  They will let you choose how you want your meat cut and packaged.  They will contact you when your meat is ready to be picked up.  Here is a link to their current cut sheet https://www.ioranchmeats.com/cut-sheets

Where do I pick up my beef?

We will deliver your calf to Evant, Tx to be processed.  You will be responsible for picking up your meat from  I O Ranch Processing, LLC at 932 N. US HWY 281, Evant TX once they have contacted you that it is ready (approximately 3 weeks from the date we deliver it).  Please schedule your pick up date promptly to avoid storage fees.

What do you feed your cattle?

Our cattle graze a combination of native pasture and coastal hay fields.  We supplement with DDG, corn and hay as needed.  When we select a calf to finish, we add Red Chain Feeds Duncan Supreme from Gorman Milling Co. to what they are being fed.

Is your ranch organic?

No.  We are not organic but we try to limit medications and we never use hormones.

Do you use antibiotics or other medications?

We give our cattle the necessary vaccines to keep them healthy.  Occasionally a cow, bull or calf will get sick and need to be doctored but we limit the use of antibiotics as much as possible.  We do not mix antibiotics with feed.  The use of antibiotics on our ranch is rare and never given close to the processing date.

Do you use hormones?

No.

Do you raise your feeder calves or buy them?

We raise the majority of our herd.  Occasionally we will buy a new bull or cow if we feel their DNA data shows that they  could help us improve our quality.   The calf you purchase will be born and raised on our ranch.

Why is DNA testing used?

DNA helps us to select animals with the best potential for breeding, raising calves and consuming.  The DNA tells us about traits such as calving ease, birth weight, weaning weight, feed efficiency, docility,  ribeye size, marbling, & tenderness.  We try to maintain or improve the quality of our animals so that the end product provides the consumer with a pleasurable dining experience.
